Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission seeks qualified applicants for open position

The Tacoma City Council is inviting qualified individuals to apply for a position on the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Prospective applicants should have a basic familiarity with historic preservation issues and a demonstrated interest.

The Landmarks Commission is currently seeking applications for the following positions:

— Architect (1 position): Open to individuals who currently are, or have been professionally registered architects.

— At Large (1 position): Open to Tacoma residents with a demonstrated interest in historic preservation issues.

— North Slope Historic District Ex-Officio (1 position): Open to business or property owners within the North Slope Historic Special Review District.

— Union Depot/Warehouse Historic District Ex-Officio (1 position): Open to business or property owners within the Union Depot/Warehouse Historic Special Review District.

— Old City Hall Historic District Ex-Officio (1 position): Open to business or property owners within the Old City Hall Historic Special Review District.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission oversees the establishment and regulation of landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts. Commission meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

The Commission is comprised of 11 citizen volunteers who serve three-year terms. Ex-Officio positions are not voting and are appointed to four-year terms.
