On Jan. 15, members of the City Council are scheduled to consider a resolution that would accept the Tacoma Fire Department’s 2008-2012 Strategic Plan — completion of the strategic plan is part of Tacoma Fire’s overall accreditation effort. Tacoma Fire is currently seeking accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and a strategic plan is one of three major deliverables of the accreditation process. To be a viable candidate for accreditation, Tacoma Fire must complete a strategic plan that covers three to five years in the future and then submit it for acceptance by the authority having jurisdiction. This plan was developed with input from Tacoma Fire field personnel, field officers and administration staff. Input was also gathered from Neighborhood Council meetings during the months of October and November.
