City's Civil Service Board has opening

Tacoma citizens interested in public employment issues can now apply for a vacancy on the city’s Civil Service Board.

The Civil Service Board is a five-member quasi-judicial body. The citizens of Tacoma elect three members, classified employees of the city’s work force elect one member and city management appoints one member.

The available seat on the board is for the duration of the term of one of the elected members and ends Dec. 30, 2003.

The person selected for the position must live within the city limits and be a registered voter.

The Civil Service Board meets at 5 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month in the Municipal Building in the Council Chambers, 747 Market St.

The vacancy occurred when board member Jacqueline Hyde resigned last week.

The remaining members of the board will evaluate the applications and appoint the replacement.

Interested parties should submit a letter of interest, including qualifications and reason for applying, by Feb. 8 to: Margith Baker, Civil Service Coordinator;, 747 Market St., Suite 1336; Tacoma, WA 98402.
