52 nabbed during Super Bowl DUI patrol

Pierce County law enforcement officers arrested 52 motorists on various alcohol and/or drug related offenses during the Super Bowl – before, during and after the game.
Offenses included driving under the influence, minors in possession of alcohol, drug possession, and driving while license is suspended. An additional seven people were picked up on outstanding warrants. Last year’s emphasis patrol netted 23 DUI arrests, while this year’s total was 36.
Officers from Bonney Lake, Buckley, DuPont, Eatonville, Edgewood, Fife, Fircrest, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Milton, Orting, Puyallup Tribal, Puyallup, Roy, Ruston, Steilacoom, Sumner, Tacoma and University Place police departments participated in the Super Bowl Sunday DUI and traffic safety emphasis patrol.
They were joined by deputies from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, troopers from the Washington State Patrol, Military Police from Fort Lewis and Security Forces from McChord Air Force Base.
The emphasis patrol was coordinated by the Tacoma/Pierce County DUI Task Force and supported by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission
