Washington state women’s mayoral forum to discuss city sustainability priorities for 2018

A wave of 38 women mayors were elected in the state of Washington last year, and conference organizers have gathered a panel of them to speak in the Opening Plenary at the ninth-annual GoGreen Conference on April 4, 2018, at the Conference Center in downtown Seattle. The Washington Women’s Mayoral Forum will highlight the plans and initiatives for advancing sustainability in four cities across the state.

Attendees will hear from Mayors Nancy Backus of the City of Auburn, Mary Lou Pauly of the City of Issaquah, Dana Ralph from the City of Kent, and Victoria Woodards of the City of Tacoma. Each of the women will outline their sustainability goals and initiatives for their cities, and discuss the importance of female voices in today’s political climate.

This year’s program will also feature a keynote address from Washington Governor Jay Inslee. Jay has been a forward-thinking leader in the issues of clean energy and the environment for years, having co-written the book “Apollo’s Fire: Igniting America’s Clean-Energy Economy” about the job-creating potential of the clean tech industry. The Governor will discuss his priority of growing Washington’s innovative industries such as clean energy, IT and life sciences in a sustainable way.

The 2018 GoGreen Conference will explore the theme of The Climate Commitment Leadership Imperative: Businesses and States Rise to Fill Federal Gaps. Because the current federal administration has not prioritized climate action in a way that creates space for environmental progress during a time in which this is a global imperative, this year’s program will showcase businesses and local leadership taking the lead on climate action.

2018 conference program will feature tracks on Strategic Sustainability Solutions, Equity and Social Justice, and Clean Energy Future. Sessions will include:

• Equitable Transportation: E-Mobility and Smart EV Infrastructure for All

• The Clean Energy Future of Efficiency

• The Value of a Diverse Workforce: Change and Activate Your Company Culture

• When Brands Take a Stand: The Business Case for Corporate Activism
