UWT Joy Building renovation, downtown CPTED improvements headline Jan. 16 City Center luncheon

The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce will host its quarterly City Center Luncheon Fri., Jan. 16. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the program will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. The event will be held at Pacific Grill’s new event center, located at 1530 Pacific Ave., in downtown Tacoma.

The program will feature presentations on the following topics:

— The University of Washington Tacoma’s Joy Building renovation / The renovation will provide additional classroom and faculty office space to support expanded and new degree programs and will serve to transition the campus toward the new 4-year curriculum.

— Downtown Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Improvements / Representatives from the Tacoma Police Department will discuss CPTED improvements proposed for Fireman’s Park, University of Washington Tacoma and the Tacoma Art Museum.

— Sound Transit D to M Street Signal and Track Improvement Project in the Dome District / A Sound Transit representative will describe the proposed Sounder track and signal improvements in the Dome District, which will extend Sounder commuter rail service to stations in South Tacoma and Lakewood.

— Preview of Tollefson Plaza’s Lunar New Year Celebration / The Chamber will be ringing in the Lunar New Year, celebrated by communities across Asia, at Tollefson Plaza on Jan. 30th at 5:00 p.m.
