Tacoma Historical Society offers free downtown walking tours

Free walking tours highlighting Downtown Tacoma’s architecture will be offered by the Tacoma Historical Society Thurs., Aug. 20. Tours will begin at 5:30 and 6 p.m. at the society’s Exhibit Center, 747 Broadway, with stops in the St. Helens neighborhood, the Theater District, 11th & Broadway and 13th & Pacific. Tours will last about 90 minutes and will spotlight Tacoma’s current architecture and note both removed historic buildings and modern development.

The Society’s current exhibit is “From Ruins to Renaissance: The Architecture of Downtown Tacoma.” The center will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. for ArtWalk Thursday. Admission to the exhibit is by donation. The Exhibit Center’s regular hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
