The Performing Arts & Event Center is proud to present Storm Large on Friday, December 1st at 8:00 PM. Familiar as a vocalist for Pink Martini, Storm and her new band Le Bonheur, will be delivering a concert roiling with their sublime and subversive interpretations of the American Songbook. The program will be a collection of tortured and titillating love songs; beautiful, familiar, yet twisted…much like the lady herself. Experience Storm Large in a theater befitting one of the most exciting vocalists and performers of our day.
Storm Large cartwheeled out of her checkered past across a thousand punk rock stages and into her infamous stint on the CBS Rock n’ Roll reality series Rock Star: Supernova. From there she went on to tour the world, singing in 17 different languages, and only behaving herself somewhat, as vocalist for the joyful little pop orchestra Pink Martini.
This route lead Storm to Carnegie Hall singing Kurt Weill classics with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed at the Gilmore Festival with pianist Kirill Gerstein, at the Ojai Festival with The Knights and at the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago. She has appeared with The New York Pops Orchestra, The Cincinnati Symphony, The Houston Symphony, Ireland’s RTE Concert Orchestra in Dublin and with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. among many other ensembles.
Storm Large is not only a musician but also an actor, playwright, and author. Her award-winning one-woman show, Crazy Enough, broke every box office record at Portland Center Stage in 2010. In 2012, she detailed her wild life in a memoir of the same title released through Simon and Schuster. The book was named Oprah’s Book of the Week and awarded the 2013 Oregon Book Award for creative non-fiction.
