Members of the City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance July 12 that could place a low-income housing levy on the Nov. 8, 2005 ballot. If approved, Tacoma voters would be asked to approve or reject a six-year increase in the regular property tax levy to raise $2,500,000 annually to help finance affordable housing for low and very low income households. The levy would increase property taxes by $0.18 per $1,000 assessed value and allow the levy to increase 4 percent per year in each of the succeeding five years.
