Downtown comes ‘alive’ May 18

There are so many things going on in Tacoma’s downtown on May 18 that you’ll definitely want to make some room on your calendar on that day, and so many of the sun-filled Thursdays after.

Tacoma’s very own Broadway Farmers Market will kick off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. between 9th and 11th streets offering fresh produce, artisan crafts, prepared foods, toe-tapping music and more. New to the market this year will be weekly chef demonstrations and a “Friends of the Market” frequent shopper program. Stop by the market for more information or go to http://www.tacomafarmersmarket.com .

In partnership with the Farmers Market, Tacoma’s Downtown Merchants Group is beginning a “Live After Five” program to gather more feet on Tacoma’s downtown streets in the evenings. The DMG will host an information booth at the Farmers Market each Thursday to fill people in on the weekly Live After Five event, which will include businesses staying open later, special discounts, live entertainment and the like. For more information on Live After Five, contact the DMG through http://www.downtowntacoma.com/contact.asp .

On May 18, the Downtown Merchants will point you to the Third Thursday Art Walk where so many of Tacoma’s art venues, large and small, open their doors to showcase a variety of creations. On the third Thursday of every month, the Tacoma Art Museum admits for free from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the Museum of Glass and the Washington State History Museum offer free admission from 5 to 8 p.m.

Finally, be sure to attend the Theater District and Opera Ally Merchants Night on the Town from 6 to 9 p.m. on the 18th, which will feature eats, treats, shopping and mingling at the following businesses: Court C Studios, Dame Lola, Fibers Etc., Horatios, Mineral, Over the Moon Café, Remedy 450, Rocky and Coco’s and Ruby Collection. Those who visit all nine locations that night will receive incentives and gifts from the merchants.
