County hosts Clover Creek restoration meeting May 17

Pierce County will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, May 17 to present plans for restoring Clover Creek. Local property owners and other interested parties are invited to attend and provide feedback. The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Parkland/Spanaway Library, 13718 Pacific Ave. S.
The Water Programs Division of the Public Works and Utilities Department is leading the plan development effort and will present the draft plan and an update on other restoration activities on Clover Creek. The draft plan will include possible realignment and/or restoration of the existing creek channel, creation of wetlands, removal of berms and other activities to restore the habitat and floodplain along the creek.

The Clover Creek Habitat/Floodplain Restoration Project was initiated in July 2005 with a public meeting to share information and hear about Clover Creek history from property owners in the area. This was followed by a work party of volunteers that removed Scot’s broom, blackberry and other invasive species from county property along the creek. The county plans to commence creek channel realignment and revegetation activities late this summer on 9 acres of county-owned property.
