City Council members are scheduled during the Aug. 16 study session to continue discussion of long-term strategies to re-establish fiscal discipline and to create a new revenue model that would eliminate Tacomas property tax and business and occupation tax, and reduce the gross earnings (utility) tax. Under the concept outlined Aug. 9 by City Manager Eric Anderson, the taxes that would be eliminated or reduced would then be replaced with user fees to pay for police, fire and library services. The Council will also hear from the Finance Department about proposed license fee revisions and language changes to update the Citys Tax and License Code. The public may attend the noon study session in Room 16, Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St., but the Council will not take public comment. CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast) will air the audio portion of the session live. Replays of the study session audio may be heard Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. on CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast).
