CITY OF TACOMA, WASHINGTON
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., the City Council will conduct a public hearing on proposed amendments to Title 13 of the Municipal Code, relating to Historic Preservation.

The meeting will be conducted in a hybrid format. To attend in person, the meeting will be held at the Tacoma Municipal Building in the Council Chambers, located at 747 Market Street, on the first floor. Council meetings are also available to watch live on TV Tacoma.
Oral comment will be taken during the City Council meeting. Those wishing to submit written comment may do so by email to the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk@tacoma.gov or by mail at 747 Market Street, Tacoma, WA 98402, by 5:00 p.m., on Monday, October 6, 2025. Written comments will be compiled, sent to the City Council, and posted online.

CITY COUNCIL PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE HISTORIC PRESERVATION CODE AMENDMENTS
Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m.
Subject of Hearing:
The purpose of the public hearing is the Tacoma Planning Commission’s recommended amendments to the Tacoma Municipal Code relating to historic preservation.
Background:
These amendments would be effective citywide and include sections of Tacoma Municipal Code 13.01, 13.05, 13.07 and 13.12, pertaining to nominations to the Tacoma Register of Historic Places for both individual properties and local historic district overlay zones, permitting and design review for properties on the historic register, financial incentives, and demolition permit review requirements.
Proposed changes include:
• Amendments to the nomination process and criteria for local historic districts and individual City Landmarks
• Reduced design review requirements within residential historic districts
• The creation of a new Community Heritage Register
• Expansion of the Special Tax Valuation Program to include National Register listed properties
• Addition of owner consent requirements in compliance with changes to state law
• Revisions to the demolition review process to incorporate mitigation guidance
