1. Pacific Avenue construction work to resume today

Construction crews will resume work on the Pacific Avenue upgrade project between South 16th and 7th Streets next week. Work will begin April 5 on the ramps at each intersection along the project. Paving is planned to begin at South 16th Street and continue to South 11th Street along the east side of Pacific Avenue, beginning April 6. Paving is expected to begin on the west side of Pacific Avenue from South 16th to South 11th Streets on April 7. Roadwork for South 7th Street to South 11th Street on the east side of Pacific Avenue is scheduled to begin April 8, and continue on the west side on April 11. More work may be performed on the intersections on April 12. These upgrades are weather dependent and work dates are subject to change.

2. Council to set priorities for plan for housing, community development

City Council members will consider a resolution April 5 that would set the 2005-2006 funding priorities for the City’s housing and community development activities. The priorities provide direction to the Urban Policy Committee and the Tacoma Community Redevelopment Authority for the selection of projects to be supported with Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnership and Emergency Shelter Grant funds. The changes include a Council-approved reduction of the fire sprinkler fund account from $50,000 to $10,000.

3. Budget policies, General Government goals lead study session

During the April 5 study session the City Council will review the City’s financial and budget policies as they were set in the 2005-2006 Biennial Budget. The council will also hear an overview of the General Government departmental goals and priorities for 2005. The public may attend the noon study session in Room 16, Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St., but the Council will not take public comment. CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast) will air the audio portion of the session live.
