The City Council agreed to accept $3.75 million of United States Department of Transportation Federal Section 117 funds through the State of Washington for the Train to the Mountain Project. If approved, the funds would provide for the upgrade of the line which would offer more efficient and safe movement of freight and could help create the corridor for the Train to the Mountain from Tacoma to Mountain Rainier National Park. These funds will allow for the upgrade of approximately 10 miles of track.
