The Tacoma Narrows Airport has received $17,000 from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Aviation Division.
The grant, which is a match for a Federal Aviation Administration grant, is for environmental assessment for a runway safety area.
The Airport Aid Program is essential for maintaining airports across the state, said WSDOT Aviation Director John Sibold. Especially for airports is smaller rural communities that may not qualify for federal assistance.
In total, the program awarded $263,588 in grants to municipal airports.
