Grand Cinema design celebration Jan. 21

The Grand Cinema, Pierce County’s only non-profit art house film theater, announced today it will unveil its new logo during a celebration Weds., Jan. 21. The cinema will offer free cake and cookies all day beginning at 2:45 p.m. Free raffle prizes will be given away before each film. Also, look around Tacoma to see if you can find the new Grand Cinema logo at local Tacoma merchants — there will be many postcards good for two free movies at the Grand.

According to a statement, the Grand Cinema applied for a grant with the local creative marketing guru Rusty George Creative in fall 2007. In early December, The Grand Cinema received a letter stating they had received the grant for 2008. Over the next six months, Rusty George worked on creating a new identity for the Grand Cinema.

The 12-year-old movie house has over 200 active volunteers, 1,800 members, 11 staff members, and 15 board members.
