The Pierce County Executive and County Council officially recognized the county’s employees Tuesday with a proclamation commending employees for “responding with compassion and generosity to the needs of others.”
Pierce County employees donated more than $70,000 to cancer research between 2000 and 2007 through Lee Denim Day. That ranked Pierce County in the top 25 out of 29,000 participating companies and organizations.
Also, Pierce County employees donated $10,000 to the American Cancer Society through the February 2008 Daffodils Day project. That amounted to half the total raised in Tacoma-Pierce County.
Kara Moore (pictured above) of the Executive’s Office was honored for providing key leadership for both projects. In her response Kara said employees shared their time and money and demonstrated creativity and dedication to the donation projects.
The Denim Day project started after former ATR employee Janice Rogich suggested it would be a good way to encourage cancer victims within the county family.
