This past month one of the panels bordering Tacoma Art Museums construction site at 1701 Pacific Avenue was stolen. The missing panel, an image of Van Gogh, was created by Juan La Torre as part of a fundraiser for TAMs capital campaign.
The community can help replace the panel, and add a few more to the fence, by participating in the Upper Tacoma Music and Murals Festival, Saturday, June 22, from noon to 6pm. Participants can paint portions of a panel while enjoying the arts, music and entertainment at the festival.
It’s a great place for families to make art, noted Curator of Education, Anna Castillo. And, were looking forward to bringing people together through art to help enliven the building site.
The first set of panels, including the missing one, were created during a fund-raising event in September of 2000 to line fencing adjacent to the construction site on Hood Street. Additional panels, created earlier this year by Hoffman Construction employees, their families and TAM volunteers, line the temporary fencing along Pacific Avenue. Panels made at Music and Murals will be added to this fencing.
