Tacoma to host 200 executives, statewide convention in 2014

The Washington Society of Association Executives (WSAE) announced Thursday it has picked Tacoma as the site of its annual convention in 2014.

The four-day conference, which will be held at the Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center and Hotel Murano May 31 to June 3, 2014, will include 200 conference attendees from across the state, according to Shauna Stewart, Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitor Bureau Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

“We’re excited about going to Tacoma in 2014,” said WSAE Executive Director Patty Anderson. “Each city has its own attributes, and Tacoma will surely be a huge success with our members.”

WSAE’s members include professionals who manage leading trade associations, individual membership societies and voluntary organizations.

According to Stewart, the city and its residents will receive an economic boost of nearly $20,000 as a result of the visit, and her organization is developing optional itineraries for attendees during the conference at nearby attractions.

“Once they see all that our city has to offer they’ll be more likely to return,” said Stewart. “And that means bringing back future business to boost the local economy.”
