The City of Tacoma’s Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on Weds., March 2, at 5 p.m., in Tacoma City Council Chambers concerning the 2011 Annual Amendment to the Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Regulatory Code. Included in this year’s amendment package is a new Historic Preservation Element proposed for the Comprehensive Plan. These policies institutionalize historic preservation as a civic value and establish the framework by which specific ordinance changes can be made. Historic Tacoma is encouraging public comment by attending the March 2 meeting or submitting written testimony to the Planning Commission by March 11 via e-mail at lwung@cityoftacoma.org . “City officials need to hear our voices and know that the conservation and adaptive re-use of our historic structures and streetscapes play a significant role in the quality of our environment and the City’s character,” said Historic Tacoma Board President Sharon Winters in a statement.
