A Washington State Department of Transportation paving job on Interstate 5 that was started but not finished last year will restart on Monday, August 1. WSDOT expects the job to be completed later this summer.
The $1.5 million project will repave a section of northbound I-5 from the Nisqually River Bridge to Fort Lewis Road. In addition to repaving the right lane, contractor Woodworth and Company will remove and replace several sections of pavement in the left lane that did not meet WSDOT standards during the 2004 construction season. A total of approximately three-fourths of a mile in four different areas of the left lane will be ground out and replaced with new asphalt. The quality control work on this high traffic freeway means a safer roadway and less overall maintenance on the I-5 corridor. Motorists can expect nighttime lane closures to minimize affects to traffic. The northbound I-5 weigh station near Mounts Road (milepost 117) will be closed temporarily during the repaving.
