1. 2005 Globe Awards next week

The World Trade Center Tacoma (WTCTA) will be holding its 12th Annual Globe Awards Dinner on Weds., Feb. 2.  Presented by KeyBank, The Annual Globe Awards is Tacoma’s most prestigious international trade dinner and celebration featuring prominent guests and speakers, silent and live auctions, networking opportunities, and entertainment.

Mr. Bill Clapp President of Global Partnerships, will be the Keynote Speaker.  Mr. Clapp is the Chairman and CEO of Global Partnerships and Co-Founder of Initiative for Global Development.  The Initiative for Global Partnership, a project coordinated by Global Partnerships, is an alliance of business and civic leaders who believe that significantly reducing extreme global poverty is the most critical step the United States can take to improve security and economic vitality at home and abroad.

 The Globe and Marco Polo Awards will be given to the international trade businesses who have been nominated for their fine representation of large and start-up companies that continue to make impacts on the world of international trade.

 To celebrate this evening, the MC will be Juli Wilkerson, former Director of Economic Development of the City of Tacoma, and presently Director of Office of Trade and Economic Development for the State of Washington.

The 2005 Globe Awards will be held at The Sheraton Convention Center in Tacoma.  A No-Host reception and silent auction will be from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and dinner and other programs will be from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  The event will be located at 13th and Market St. in downtown Tacoma.  The cost to attend is $90 for WTCTA members, $100 for non-members, and $900 for a table of 10.  Business attire is greatly appreciated/mandatory.

2. Business travel discussion Feb. 10

The WTCTA, in conjunction with Doug Fox Travel, will be hosting an informative panel on the changing world of international business travel Thurs., Feb. 10, 2005. The panel will be speaking from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at The Tacoma Club, 1201 Pacific Ave. in the Wells Fargo Building, Tacoma, WA. The non-profit World Trade Center hosts this event in hopes of helping businesspeople navigate the turbulent world of international business travel.

Working with Doug Fox Travel, the World Trade Center Tacoma has assembled a group of travel industry leaders to share their diverse perspectives of the complex, changing world of business travel. Panelist will include Palle Christensen, General Manager of Scandinavian Airlines, Michelle Culbertson, Director of Marriott Global Sales, Mike Ehl, Director of Operations at Sea-Tac Airport and Jacquie Nielsen, Travel Manager of a Fortune 500 Company. Dale Eldredge, Corporate Sales Manager at Doug Fox Travel, will moderate this select group of respected travel executives that will address current issues that dramatically effect today’s business travelers and corporate travel managers. They will also answer any questions guests may have about booking international business travel engagements.
