World Trade Center Tacoma honors state businesses

The World Trade Center Tacoma has announced its 2006 Globe Award and Marco Polo Award winners, honoring businesses or individuals who contribute to Washington’s international trade status.

The Globe Award was given to United Coatings, a manufacturer of high-performance protective and decorative coatings sold domestically and internationally. Founded in 1919 in Spokane, the company’s products are used in architectural, industrial and roofing applications.

The 2006 Marco Polo Award was presented to Newton Labs Inc., a Renton based manufacturer founded in 1992 by members of its current management team to exploit the high speed color machine vision technology developed for a robotics project at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. That technology has grown into a complete line of high performance vision, optical automation and robotics products servicing many different industries. Newton Labs has more than 15,000 locations worldwide.
