Volunteers needed for Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission

Tacoma City Council invites qualified individuals to apply for a position on the Landmarks Preservation Commission. Prospective applicants should have a basic familiarity with historic preservation issues and a demonstrated interest.

The Landmarks Commission seeks applications for the following positions:

— Architects (2): Open to professional architects, with current or expired certifications

— Professional (2): Open to individuals with documented professional experience or training related to historic preservation originating from employment or study within a related discipline.

— At Large (1): Open to interested Tacoma residents

The Landmarks Preservation Commission oversees the establishment and regulation of landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts. Commission meetings are held at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

The commission is comprised of 11 citizen volunteers who serve three-year terms. Members are recommended for appointment by the City Council Appointments Committee and confirmed by the City Council. For more information, visit http://www.tacomaculture.org .
