Three sought for Planning Commission vacancies

Citizens who want to have an impact on Tacoma’s economic development – and who have the right address or right experience-can now apply for open positions on the Tacoma Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission has openings for three volunteers; one from Council District Number 1 – which generally encompasses Tacoma’s West End; one from Council District Number 3 – which includes Tacoma’s central area and Southwest neighborhoods; and one with a background or involvement in the development community.

The term for the volunteer positions begins January 2003 and will expire Dec. 31, 2005.

As a member of the Planning Commission, the chosen applicants will advise the City Council on issues that impact the city’s Comprehensive Plan, neighborhood planning, land use and development regulations and other land use issues.

“This is a great opportunity for citizens to be a part of Tacoma’s future development,” said Juli Wilkerson, economic development director.

The Planning Commission meets at 4 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Tacoma Municipal Building North, 728 St. Helens Avenue, Room 16.

Citizens can obtain a map with the extended boundaries for Council Districts 1 and 3 from the City Clerk’s office to ensure they fall within that district before applying.

Citizens must submit applications to the Mayor’s Office by Wednesday, November 27, 2002.

To apply, contact Carol Krona, Mayor’s Office, Room 1200, Municipal Building, 747 Market St., Tacoma, WA 98402, or call 253/591-5100.
