Star Wars family events all day, Empire Writes Back! Grade school story writing contest now open for submissions–winners read at Museum

On Oct. 7 The Museum of Flight welcomes friendly visitors from all galaxies, no matter how far, far away, as it participates in Disney Publishing Worldwide’s Star Wars Reads Day. Star Wars characters will be roaming the galleries, while family activities include arts and crafts under the Blackbird spyplane and story telling in an Ewok village. All are encouraged to wear their favorite intergalactic garb. Events are free with Museum admission.

Empire Writes Back! Creative Story Writing Contest Now Open for Submissions:

In conjunction with Star Wars Reads Day is the Empire Writes Back! creative story writing contest for students in grades 2-8. The contest calls for fictional stories of all kinds between 100 and 1000 words; submissions are due by midnight Sept. 30. Winners in the contest will read their story before an audience at the Museum on Star Wars Reads Day, Oct. 7.

Reception, Lecture and Book Signing with Author of “Mars: Our Future on the Red Planet”   

Oct. 7 evening event with Leonard David, author of companion book to National Geographic Channel “Mars” series

The Flight Museum offers an evening reception, lecture and book signing with award-winning journalist Leonard David, as he talks about his book, “Mars: Our Future on the Red Planet.” Leonard David has been reporting on space activities for nearly 50 years. He is the 2010 winner of the prestigious National Space Club Press Award. His new book considers the imminent settlement of humans on Mars in this companion book to the National Geographic Channel six-part Mars series produced by Ron Howard. The event begins with a reception with the author at 5:30 p.m., followed by a lecture and book signing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tickets $25 general/$20 Museum Members. Please register online by Oct. 1.
