“The Tacoma Chapter of SCORE, the Service Corps of Retired Executives, has announced its intent to continue its $1,500 Scholarship Program for the year 2000 and into the future.According to Tom Hansen, a SCORE volunteer and member of the scholarship committee, the scholarship is open to qualified Tacoma Public School graduating seniors who are going on to continue their education and who have indicated an interest in business as a career.The Tacoma SCORE Scholarship Committee works with Tacoma Public School officials, including Assistant Superintendent, High School Education, Alex Apostle. The SCORE program is looking for students who have shown a significant academic improvement and have an economic need for the continuation of their education.The Tacoma Chapters 1999 scholarship recipient is Jessica Rodriquez from Foss High School, who enrolled this fall at the University of Washington.SCORE is a national nonprofit organization sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration, dedicated to helping the small business and entrepreneurial community through no-fee confidential mentoring and business counseling and low-cost workshops.For more information about SCORE or the SCORE Scholarship Program, call 253-274-1288.”
