Tacoma Daily Index Top Stories — June 2015

Here are the top five stories read by visitors to the Tacoma Daily Index‘s Web site during the month of June, according to Google Analytics.

1. Artist Lynn Di Nino’s creative commute (Tacoma Daily Index, June 5, 2015) — Tacoma Public Library’s Handforth Gallery unveiled the exhibit Riding the express bus Seattle/Tacoma by local artist Lynn Di Nino. The exhibit featured 14 vignettes of three-dimensional 10-inch, wall-mounted figures seated next to photographs of landmarks Di Nino captured on her smart phone while commuting between Seattle and Tacoma.

2. Mightier Than Swords: Tacoma artists zero their pens on local politics (Tacoma Daily Index, March 21, 2007) — John Hathaway, the long-time Tacoma political cartoonist, Tacoma City Hall gadfly, and publisher of The New Takhoman passed away in June at the age of 69. The Tacoma Daily Index dipped into our archives to republish feature articles and interviews with Hathaway.

3. Open house offers early peek at Lincoln Neighborhood Revitalization Project (Tacoma Daily Index, June 26, 2015) — City of Tacoma officials held an open house in June to discuss early plans for a $4 million streetscape project in the Lincoln International Business District.

4. Public art unveiled in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood (Tacoma Daily Index, June 2, 2015) — Two new public art installations—TransFORM by Yuki Nakamura and Sea Branches & Pearls by Diane Hansen and Jennifer Weddermann—were unveiled in June at Tacoma Housing Authority’s Bay Terrace affordable housing community in the Hilltop neighborhood.

5. John Hathaway: A Tacoma gadfly’s voice goes silent (Tacoma Daily Index, June 12, 2015) — Following the death of John Hathaway, the Tacoma Daily Index interviewed several people close to him to learn more about the late political cartoonist, Tacoma City Hall gadfly, and publisher of The New Takhoman.
