The Supreme Court of the United States said Monday it will rule on whether states may keep secret information about traffic accidents collected as part of the Federal Highway Safety Act.
The case originated in Pierce County, where families have sued over access to records on serious accidents. The state Supreme Court had earlier ruled that a federal law allowing with-holding of records is unconstitutional.
The high court decision, expected next year, will affect governments in every state and determine whether officials must admit they know an interstate is dangerous.
