“State Archivist ChosenPhil Coombs has been chosen as State Archivist to head the Washington State Archives and Records Management Division.Coombs has an extensive background working in state government with public records management, information technology and historic preservation.Coombs has recently worked with the Washington State Library as project director for the states Digital Imaging Initiative, to assemble a central electronic collection of the states historical documents, photographs and other items of significance. He also managed the development of the government information locator service, which coordinates online access to state and local government information, and managed the Department of Labor and Industries digital imaging system.The Archives and Records Management Division has the responsibility for collecting, preserving and making available for research the historic records of the state. The division is also responsible for coordinating implementation of the records management statutes of the state, including records retention scheduling, operation of state records centers and centralized microfilm services.Archival collections date from the establishment of the Washington Territory in 1853 to the present.Wesley Inn Employee of the MonthTamara Long, general manager of the Best Western Wesley Inn, has named Cassy Glaspie as the inns Very Special Employee for the month of October 1999.Glaspie has served as the executive housekeeper since 1997.”
