Resolution would help support youth job and pre-apprenticeship program

City Council members are scheduled May 6 to consider a resolution that would authorize a $310,581 agreement with the Tacoma-Pierce County Employment and Training Consortium for the implementation of the Youth Building Tacoma comprehensive job training and pre-apprenticeship program. The Project trains and employs young adults ages 18 to 24, with an emphasis on participants from the Renewal Community/Community Enterprise Zone, women, minorities, those transitioning from welfare, and those with limited English-speaking abilities. During 2007, the project recruited 125 young adults, served 61, placed 26 in living-wage jobs and placed 33 in a high-skill or apprenticeship job.
