Resolution would appoint Councilmember Campbell Tacoma's Deputy Mayor

Tacoma City Councilmember Marty Campbell is poised to become the city’s deputy mayor beginning in January. The one-year term was previously held by Councilmember Joe Lonergan and expires on Dec. 31.

Campbell was elected to city council in 2009 and represents District 4, which largely covers the city’s east side. Prior to being elected, Campbell served in a leadership role for several community organizations, including the Cross District Association, New Tacoma Neighborhood Council, The Grand Cinema, First Creek Neighbors, Dometop Neighborhood Alliance, TEAM, Downtown Merchant’s Group, City Club of Tacoma. He was also the owner of Buzzard’s Discs and Stadium Video. His term as councilmember expires on Dec. 31, 2013.

City council is tentatively scheduled to vote on a resolution to approve the appointment during its meeting on Tues., Jan. 8. “Councilmember Marty Campbell’s interest in serving and seniority status qualify him as an excellent candidate for Deputy Mayor,” wrote Mayor Marilyn Strickland in the draft version of the resolution.
