Transit ridership in downtown Tacoma has increased since 2010, Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, Pierce Transit, and “Downtown On The Go” officials announced today. Recent calculations show that nearly four percent more riders got on and off Pierce Transit buses in downtown Tacoma this October, as compared to October 2010, according to Scott Morris, Pierce Transit’s Manager of Public Affairs and Downtown On the Go Board Member. The increase comes after a year of 35 percent overall reductions in Pierce Transit service. Compared to the third quarter of 2010, Sound Transit’s ridership also increased. Express Bus Service has increased by 9.2 percent and ridership on Tacoma Link has increased 8.7 percent this year. Sound Transit attributes this to higher gas prices and an increased awareness of transit options. For more information, visit http://www.downtownonthego.org .
