Pierce County Bike Maps surge in popularity

Pierce County officials have reported a surge in interest for the Pierce County Bike Map, a free publication distributed to over 110 locations, including all Pierce County and City of Tacoma libraries, most city halls, and 20 bike shops.

“The popularity of the map has been almost overwhelming,” said Transportation Planner Mike Galizio. “Since the bike map was released last May, we’ve distributed about 70,000 copies in less than one year. By comparison, it took us nearly four years to distribute 25,000 copies of our previous bike map.”

The map highlights 54 miles of existing paved trails in Pierce County, about 36 of which are located in unincorporated areas. Another three miles of the Foothills Trail and two and a half miles of the Cushman Powerline Trail are currently under construction. A print-friendly version of the map is available at http://www.piercecountywa.org/bikemap and is updated regularly to include new bikeways, corrected information, and other feedback.
