New source for timely weather information

Local weather data of particular interest to commercial shellfish growers, engineers, scientists, gardeners and amateur meteorologists is now available online. Washington State University’s AgWeatherNet system provides real-time information such as air temperature, wind speed and direction, rainfall and soil temperature.

The data is gathered at seven monitoring sites and provided to the Web site at at 15 minute intervals. WSU operates a site at its Puyallup station, and Pierce County Public Works and Utilities maintains the others at Roy, Home, Lake Tapps, Purdy, Puyallup and South Prairie. A station near Rocky Bay on the Key Peninsula is planned for 2009.
