If you know a person who saved a life, the Governors Industrial Safety and Health Advisory Board would hear from you. Nominations for the Governors annual lifesaving awards currently are being accepted.
Award recipients will be featured guests at the opening session of the Governors Industrial Safety and Health Conference Oct. 30 and 31 at the Spokane Convention Center in Spokane. The two-day event focuses on the latest tools, technologies and strategies for improving workplace safety and health.
All Washington workers covered by the workers compensation system or self-insured employers are eligible for the lifesaving nomination. The heroic act must have taken place between July 1, 2001 and June 30, 2002, any day or time, anywhere in the world.
The hero or heroine must have performed hands-on aid in saving a life. For law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other emergency aid professionals, the lifesaving action must be above and beyond the line of duty.
For a lifesaving nomination form and additional information, contact Char Alexander at 360/902-5446, or Melodie Hell at 360/902-5415. The form is available online at:
www.LNI.wa.gov/wisha/gov-conf/.
The deadline for submitting applications is July 31.
The Washington Department of Labor and Industries manages the states workers compensation system. It provides coverage for more than 163,000 employers and 1.9 million workers.
The agency is also responsible for administration and enforcement of the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA).
