The City of Tacoma department that manages programs ranging from senior centers to human rights enforcement will get a new director Dec. 3.
John Briehl, first hired by the city in 1974, will take the top post in the Human Rights/Human Services Department.
Briehl began his career 27 years ago as operations manager for the citys Youth Services Bureau. He was promoted up the ranks to Youth Division Manager, Human Services Supervisor and served the past three years as the Human Services Division Manager.
As the citys new Human Rights/Human Services Director, Briehl will oversee a staff of 45 and a $12 million two-year budget.
My approach is to enhance the quality of service and awareness of both human services and human rights as distinct, essential entities, but also as synergistic partners, Briehl said.
