Tacoma fire fighters responded mid-day Thursday to a brush fire in the Northeast Tacoma and Fife Heights area. According to Tacoma Fire spokesperson Joe Meinecke, crews arrived to find brush and a large pile of debris on fire. The debris pile contained tires and car parts, and created a heavy smoke plume that could be seen throughout the area. Tacoma Fire’s tender apparatus, which holds 3,000 gallons of water and is used when fire hydrants are unavailable, was brought in to assist with a water supply due to the fire’s remote location. Class A foam was mixed with the water to help extinguish the blaze and minimize the chance of flare-ups. The cause of the fire is undetermined and there were no injuries to report.
