The City of Tacoma announced yesterday the $24.5 million D Street Overpass is now open to vehicular traffic in all directions, including the Dock Street connection.
Pedestrian access remains available on the East side of the overpass and will be complete on the West side, which includes Dock Street, next week, which will bring the project to substantial completion.
This Puget Sound Regional Council VISION 2020 award-winning overpass is now speeding freight traffic through the City of Tacoma and the rest of the Puget Sound region.
The overpass has also improved pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety at the crossing by separating them from the train traffic at the intersection.
On June 25, at 10 a.m. on the overpass at the intersection of D and Dock streets, the City of Tacoma will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the funding partners who made the project possible, Pierce County leaders, and the Dome District and Thea Foss communities, which the overpass has connected. The event is free and open to the public. An invitation with additional details is available at cityoftacoma.org/dstreet.
