The Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department is looking for golfers and other citizens to help plan Fort Steilacoom Golf Course’s future. An open invitation is extended to a public workshop from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30 at the Lakewood Community Center, 9112 Lakewood Drive S.W., Lakewood. The workshop’s purpose is to receive public input on future golf course management and operation. Staff will provide a briefing on the golf course’s status and future needs. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Parks & Recreation office at (253) 798-4177. Fort Steilacoom Golf Course is situated on 105 acres adjacent to Western State Hospital. The land is leased through the state Department of Natural Resources. Under an agreement with DNR, Pierce County has operated the golf course since 1971. Premier Golf provides clubhouse and concessionaire services under a contract with the county.
