Mike Combs, the director of Public Assembly Facilities for the City of Tacoma recently announced his retirement for the end of April 2011. Combs started his 25-year career with the City in 1986 as an event services manager, and now he oversees The Pantages, The Rialto, Theatre on the Square, Cheney Stadium, Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center (GTCTC) and the Tacoma Dome.
Through his 25-year career, Combs has overseen the building of GTCTC, two bond efforts to remodel the Tacoma Dome and the remodel of Cheney Stadium as well as a 30 year lease extension to keep minor league baseball in Tacoma.
“Mike has seen Tacoma evolve over the years and has played a key role in the success of the Tacoma Dome and other public City facilities. His recent successes include the retention of the Tacoma Rainiers and organizing the construction of a new Cheney Stadium,” said City Manager Eric Anderson. “Mike’s leadership and passion for Tacoma will be sorely missed.”
Combs plans to hit the golf greens and stay involved in promoting the growth of Tacoma and Pierce County.
