1. Council to consider interim regulations for protecting critical areas

The first reading of an ordinance regarding interim regulations related to preservation of the City’s critical areas will be discussed by City Council members Nov. 30. The interim regulations are meant to maintain adequate protection and to prevent harm of critical resources during the intervening period until permanent regulations are drafted and adopted next year.

2. Budget workshops scheduled Dec. 1 and 3

The City Council has scheduled additional workshops on Dec. 1 and 3 to consider the 2005-2006 Biennial Budget. Workshops will be held from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Dec. 1 and 3. A third workshop may be held on an as-needed basis from 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 4. The workshops will be held in Room 16 of Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St. CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast) will air the audio portion of the workshops live.

3. Council to hear first reading of 2005-2006 Biennial Budget

City Council members will hear the first reading of the 2005-2006 Biennial Budget at the Nov. 30 meeting. The Council is required to pass a balanced budget for the 2005-2006 biennium by the end of the year. Time will be set aside at the beginning of the council meeting for public comment.

4. State funds would support police training

A resolution that would allow the City to accept $33,453 from the Office of Crime Victim Advocacy of the State of Washington, Department of Community, Trade, and Economic Development, will be considered by the City Council Nov. 30. If approved, the funds would allow 200 police officers to attend training for the investigation of domestic violence and special assaults. The resolution represents the sixth year of funding for the Domestic Violence STOP Grant.

5. Tacoma Water rate proposal leads study session agenda

The 2005-2006 Tacoma Water rate proposal and an update from the Business Information Systems Department lead the agenda of a joint City Council and Public Utility Board study session Nov. 30. The public may attend the study session in Room 16, Tacoma Municipal Building North, 733 Market St., but the Council will not take public comment. CityPost (Channel 85 on Click!, Channel 77 on Comcast) will air the audio portion of the study session live.
