City appoints Retirement Systems Director

The Tacoma City Council passed a resolution Dec. 15 approving the Retirement Board’s appointment of Monica Butler to the position of retirement systems director.

Butler will start on Jan. 5, 2010, with a starting salary of $148,429.

“Monica brings a wealth of experience that lends itself well to this position,” said Mayor Bill Baarsma, who also serves as chair of the Tacoma Retirement Board. “I believe she will be an outstanding steward of the retirement fund.”

Jodie Trueblood, the City’s Tax and License Division manager, who served as interim retirement director while a nationwide search for a permanent director was under way, will return to her former position.
