Bridgeport 3A open house planned for Jan. 20

In a continuing effort to make University Place streets safer for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists, the City of University Place is planning to rebuild another section of Bridgeport Way West. The project, designated Bridgeport 3A, includes the area from Cirque Drive West to 54th Street West. The rebuild will include widening to accommodate bike lanes and it will add curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Raised medians will be provided where appropriate. Planter strips, landscaping and streetlights will alsO be included in the project.

The rebuild is anticipated to lower vehicle speeds on this stretch of road as well as reduce the number and severity of accidents. The City received a Federal grant of $1.575 million to complete the project. The grant requires
a local match of 13.5%. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2006. Design, right of way acquisition and environmental reviews will be completed this year.

One of the first steps in the process is gathering input from the public. The City has scheduled an open house from 5-9 p.m. on Jan. 20 at City Hall where staff will present a design concept and answer questions. City Hall is located at 3715 Bridgeport Way West.
