Alaska senator in Tacoma April 11

Alaska Senator Ted Stevens will be in Tacoma April 11 to speak about the economic partnership between Alaska and Puget Sound, the enduring social and political relationships enjoyed between the two states, and the future opportunities in Alaska that will benefit Washington state.

The event, sponored by Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber’s Alaska Committee, Transportation Club of Tacoma, and Propeller Club of the U.S. Port of Tacoma, will be held at the Sheraton Tacoma Hotel, located at 1320 Broadway, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The cost is $20 (which includes a full breakfest).

Sen. Stevens is Alaska’s senior Senator. He holds the position of Senate President Pro Tempore. He also is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, which has oversight of the Departments of Commerce and Transportation. In addition, the Committee’s broad jurisdiction covers issues including telecommunications, fisheries, oceans and maritime policy, the Coast Guard, aviation (including the Transportation Security Administration), rail, highway safety, global climate change, interstate commerce, space, science, technology, economic development, trade, tourism, consumer issues, product safety, and sports.
