They say theres no place like home for the holidays, but to many drivers, it appears theres no place like the ditch.
Oceanside RCMP Corporal Garry Cox says police responded to nine calls of vehicles in the ditch recently.
Again, its road conditions that seem to be the problem, he says. In addition, its drivers driving too fast for road conditions.
Cox notes drivers can be charged under the Motor Vehicles Act for failing to adjust their speed to road conditions.
Not all the crashes were caused by driver error however. On Dec. 15 a vehicle heading south on Highway 19 lost a wheel and part of an axle.
The vehicle, which had one occupant inside, rolled over and, like so many others, ended up in the ditch.
Cox says no alcohol or drugs are suspected to have been involved in the crash. Meanwhile, the driver was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with minor injuries.
