“Daphne Tackett, Pierce Transit manager of Community Services, won the 1999 Leadership Award from the Association for Commuter Transportation. ACT is an international organization headquartered in Washington, DC that works to increase the use of alternative transportation.Tackett has managed Pierce Transits vanpool program since its inception in 1986 with seven vans to its current fleet of over 190 vans. Her responsibilities include working with local employers to help them meet state-mandated Commute Trip Reduction goals. She also oversees the agencys rideshare program, which provides free ride-matching services for people seeking carpooling partners.In presenting the award, ACT recognized Tackett for her pioneering work in integrating vanpooling and ridesharing programs into transit operations.”
