“Associated General Contractors of Washington (AGC) President Tom Balbo has announced the naming of the trade association’s new top executive. Roland Dewhurst, AGC Southern District manager based in Tacoma, was named executive vice president. He succeeds Curt Smelser, who resigned and plans to resume practicing law in Seattle. Dewhurst has been with AGC for 20 years and has been instrumental in building one of the strongest districts in Washington. He led preparation of AGC’s Strategic Plan, adopted in May 1999. Smelser’s leadership during the period of strategic planning and new initiatives put the AGC of Washington in the forefront of trade associations in the Northwest. This association and its members have made many positive contributions to the construction industry and the quality of life in our communities since the 1920s. I am proud to have been part of that for the past two decades and look forward to even greater opportunities to help make Washington a place where people are happy to live, work and play, Dewhurst said. The AGC of Washington is the largest and oldest construction industry group in the state. Members are general contractors, specialty or subcontractors, and associate members from supply, law, insurance and other fields related to the construction industry.”
