“On Friday, Tacoma Mayor Brian Ebersole and other volunteers will take up saws and hammers to help an elderly South Tacoma woman repair her home. The event will be part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments first Raise the Roof Day.Volunteers will work to install gutters, repair a backyard fence, build a new fence on three sides of the property, replace an existing kitchen door, replace trim, install siding and trim under a rear bedroom window, install porch railing and paint the house.Raise the Roof Day is designed to make people aware of the need for safe and affordable housing and give volunteers a tangible way to mobilize, according to the City of Tacoma.”
